Basketball Recap: Spanaway Lake Takes a Loss

Spanaway Lake was the 62-47 winner over River Ridge when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Spanaway Lake Sentinels received a blow on Monday as they fell 75-58 to the River Ridge Hawks. The Sentinels were down 60-40 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

When it comes to explaining why Spanaway Lake lost, don't look at Darius Alexander. Despite the final result, he posted 25 points along with eight assists and six steals. Alexander is crushing it when it comes to points: he's scored at least 17 every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Key'Andre White, who earned nine points and six rebounds.

Leading River Ridge to victory were Ethan Thomas and Dominique Harper. Thomas went 9 of 13 on his way to 18 points, while Harper went 7 of 10 on his way to 15 points along with five boards and three blocks. Thomas continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Ani Hicks was another key player, putting up seven points and five rebounds.

Spanaway Lake has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season. As for River Ridge, the win also got them back to even at 4-4.

After both having extra time off, Spanaway Lake and South Kitsap will dust off their jerseys to take on one another at 7:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025. Spanaway Lake is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59 points per game this season. As for River Ridge, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 72-39 victory against Steilacoom on the 27th.
