Baseball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Tomball Kings

Tomball Kings lost to Kinkaid back in March of 2023, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Wednesday. The Tomball Kings Homeschool were the clear victor by a 17-7 margin over the Kinkaid Falcons. Winning may never get old, but the Homeschool sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Asher Chapa was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed four innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-5. What's more, he posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in February.

In other pitching news, Carson Riippa looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Tomball Kings got a massive performance out of Owen Wilkins, who scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in five of his six plate appearances. Wilkins is becoming a predictor of Tomball Kings' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 6-2 (and 5-10-1 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Kaden Goodie, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Tomball Kings kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in seven consecutive matchups.

Tomball Kings' victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-12-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Kinkaid, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 14-4.

Looking ahead, Tomball Kings will head out to face off against Cooper at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Kinkaid, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Lutheran South Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
