Baseball Recap: Ferndale Sets Scoring Season-High Against Harper Woods

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Ferndale). They were the clear victors by a 16-8 margin over the Harper Woods Pioneers on Tuesday. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Pioneers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Mason Shaltis made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and five unearned) runs off only two hits. Shaltis was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Ferndale's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-2 (and 0-3 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Taylor Williams, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs. He has become a key player for Ferndale: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-4 otherwise. Jaylin Dennard was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Ferndale was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .542. They are 2-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Ferndale's victory bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Harper Woods, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-5.
