Baseball Game Preview: DeQuincy Tigers vs. Lake Arthur Tigers

DeQuincy is a perfect 10-0 against Lake Arthur since March of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. We've got a battle between Tigers coming up. DeQuincy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.

DeQuincy will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Monday, then bounced right back against Hamilton Christian on Wednesday. DeQuincy blew past Hamilton Christian 16-3. That looming 16-3 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Tigers yet this season.

Diron Valentine made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and only one walk). Valentine was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Noah Pettifield and Turner Rodriquez did most of the damage at the plate: Pettifield scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Rodriquez went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Pettifield also put up a triple, which washis first of the season. Andrew Dowden was another key player, going 1-for-4 with four RBI.

DeQuincy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Lake Arthur was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their 18th straight defeat dating back to last season. They took a 12-9 hit to the loss column at the hands of Vinton.

DeQuincy's win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs over those games. As for Lake Arthur, their loss dropped their record down to 0-3.

DeQuincy took their victory against Lake Arthur when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 13-0. Will DeQuincy repeat their success, or does Lake Arthur have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
