Baseball Recap: Hoopeston Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Paxton-Buckley-Loda, Hoopeston was happy to have turned things around on Friday. Everything went their way against the Georgetown-Ridge Farm/Chrisman Buffaloes as they made off with a 12-2 victory. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Cornjerkers as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Zach Huchel spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on seven hits and racked up seven Ks. He has become a key player for Hoopeston: the team is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 1-9 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Cole Miller, who went 3-for-4 with one home run and five RBI. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Fletcher Swartz was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.

Hoopeston's victory bumped their record up to 4-10. As for Georgetown-Ridge Farm/Chrisman, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.

Hoopeston and Georgetown-Ridge Farm/Chrisman could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Cornjerkers (ranked 475th) will meet Salt Fork (ranked 176th) at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Georgetown-Ridge Farm/Chrisman will take on Westville at 4:30 p.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (540 vs. 117).
