Baseball Recap: Basic Takes Down Ranked Green Valley

Basic faced Green Valley in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Wolves came out on top in a nail-biter against the Gators, sneaking past 3-2. The win continues a trend for the Wolves in their matchups with the Gators: they've now won four in a row.

Basic got a great performance from Johnny Villarreal as he tossed 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits.

At the plate, Andruw Giles was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Basic: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 5-7 otherwise. Brandon Lord was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases and one run.

Basic's record now sits at 10-7. As for Green Valley, their defeat ended an eight-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 17-6.

Basic will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Gators: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
