Basketball Recap: Mater Dei Sets Scoring Season-High Against Jurupa Hills

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mater Dei). They blew past the Jurupa Hills Spartans 90-70 on Wednesday. The win was familiar territory for the Monarchs, who have now won four matchups in a row.

Mater Dei was led to victory by Richie Ramirez and Malloy Smith. Ramirez posted 31 points and six boards, while Smith dropped a double-double with 20 points and ten rebounds. Ramirez's big performance that evening made it seven games in a row in which he has scored at least 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Barnett, who had 15 points and four steals.

Mater Dei smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in December of 2024.

Mater Dei now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Jurupa Hills, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-6.

Coming up, Mater Dei and San Juan Hills will face off at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday without much rest, having both just played. The Monarchs will need to watch out since the Stallions have now posted at least 55 points in their last six games. As for Jurupa Hills, they will be taking part in a tournament against El Camino at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Spartans will be up against the Wildcats' rather soft defense (which has allowed 62.57 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
