North Port is 1-9 against Sarasota since March of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. North Port will head out on the road to take on Sarasota at 7:00 p.m. North Port will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
North Port took a six-run loss the last time they faced off against North Fort Myers, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. North Port had just enough and edged out North Fort Myers 10-9 on Tuesday. With that win, the Bobcats brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
Payson Rumley made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up three earned (and six unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
In other batting news, North Port got a massive performance out of Kaitlin Kohlenberg, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-5. Kohlenberg also put up an RBI, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Emma Baskins, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.
North Port kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Sarasota fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Riverview Sarasota two weeks ago but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Rams by a score of 7-6. The Sailors haven't had much luck with the Rams recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Sarasota saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ashlan Guengerich, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave Guengerich a new career-high.
North Port's victory ended a seven-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 4-4. As for Sarasota, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-4.
North Port suffered a grim 13-2 defeat to Sarasota when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can North Port avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
