Basketball Recap: Washington School for the Deaf Comes Up Short

Washington School for the Deaf was the 40-39 winner over Pe Ell when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The Washington School for the Deaf Terriers were dealt a 72-31 loss at the hands of the Pe Ell Trojans on Tuesday. The Terriers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the defeat, Washington School for the Deaf saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Nathan Yerkes posted 18 points. That was a full 58.1% of Washington School for the Deaf's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's had more than a third of the team's points.

Blake Nelson continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Pe Ell, going 7 of 13 on his way to 14 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Calan McCarty, who put up nine points and four steals.

Washington School for the Deaf's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 2-2. As for Pe Ell, they pushed their record up to 4-2 with the win, which was their third straight on the road.

Washington School for the Deaf didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 56-13 defeat against Non Varsity Opponent on the 19th. As for Pe Ell, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Naselle at 3:45 p.m. on January 3, 2025.
