Softball Recap: Elko Wins Going Away Against Sparks

Elko got themselves on the board against Sparks on Friday, but Sparks never followed suit. They blew past the Sparks Railroaders 24-0. The Indians might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three contests by 15 runs or more this season.

Taylor Hunton was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over 4.2 innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kallista Crouch, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and five RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Vanessa Romero, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Elko kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.

The victory got Elko back to even at 4-4. As for Sparks, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 0-3.

Elko didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 23-0 win against Hug on the 15th. As for Sparks, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 19-1 defeat against Spring Creek on the 15th.
