Softball Recap: St. Paul Catholic Picks Up Seventh Consecutive Victory

St. Paul Catholic had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it seven on Wednesday. They blew past the Housatonic-Lakeview Mountaineers 19-3. The Falcons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 15 matchups by six runs or more this season.

Breyona Demora made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with four RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lily McCulloch, who went 2-for-4 with six RBI, two stolen bases, and three runs. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Gianna Botto was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs and three RBI.

St. Paul Catholic kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in five consecutive contests.

St. Paul Catholic pushed their record up to 18-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.6 runs over those games. As for Housatonic-Lakeview, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-4.

St. Paul Catholic does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Housatonic-Lakeview, they will take on Terryville at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
