Charlotte Catholic took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Friday. They put the hurt on the South Mecklenburg Sabres with a sharp 37-14 win. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 20th, while the Sabres are ranked 132nd) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Garrett Nowlan had a dynamite game, rushing for 176 yards and three touchdowns on only eight carries. Those three rushing touchdowns gave him a new career-high.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Charlotte Catholic will venture away from home to challenge Charlotte Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for South Mecklenburg, they will head out to square off against Community School of Davidson at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
