Baseball Game Preview: Eureka Hornets vs. Illinois Valley Central Grey Ghosts

The Eureka Hornets will take on the Illinois Valley Central Grey Ghosts at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Eureka comes in on three and Illinois Valley Central on 11.

Eureka is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out Sherrard 2-1.

Meanwhile, while Illinois Valley Central put up some runs on Wednesday, the same can't be said for Peoria Notre Dame. The Grey Ghosts walked away with a 4-0 victory over the Irish.

Not much got past Max Gregory, who gave up just three hits and racked up seven Ks to keep Peoria Notre Dame off the board.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Brody Garceau, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Cole Yates was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs.

Illinois Valley Central pushed their record up to 24-10 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Eureka, their win bumped their record up to 32-4.

Eureka came out on top in a nail-biter against Illinois Valley Central in their previous matchup back in April, sneaking past 4-3. Will the Hornets repeat their success, or do the Grey Ghosts have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
