Basketball Preview: Cortland Purple Tigers vs. Mexico Tigers

Cortland has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Mexico Tigers at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Cortland focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Saturday.

Last Saturday, Cortland came up short against the Cyclones and fell 61-49. While losing is never fun, Cortland can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 580th, while the Cyclones are ranked 229th).

Cortland's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Jaxson Gambitta, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds, and Antonio Terrazas who scored ten points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Owen Johnson, who scored eight points along with two steals.

Meanwhile, Mexico's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their sixth straight defeat. They were the victim of a rough 75-51 loss at the hands of Homer. Mexico has struggled against the Trojans recently, as their match on Thursday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Cortland dropped their record down to 4-14 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for Mexico, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season.

Cortland beat the Tigers 61-50 when the teams last played back in January. The rematch might be a little tougher for Cortland since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
