Baseball Preview: Benjamin Russell Wildcats vs. Tallassee Tigers
A feisty cat fight will be fought as the Wildcats take on the Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
Benjamin Russell had taken Central of Clay County down for three straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Friday. Benjamin Russell fell just short of Central of Clay County by a score of 3-2. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Tallassee). Their pitcher stepped up to hand Percy Julian a 17-0 shutout on Saturday. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Phoenix recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Avery Brantley looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
At the plate, Tallassee got a massive performance out of Bry Hathcock, who scored three runs while going 3-for-3. What's more, Hathcock posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Bryson Rigsby was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Tallassee always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .595. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
