Softball Recap: Hillsboro Picks Up Fourth Straight Win on the Road

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Hillsboro ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They had just enough and edged out the Council Grove Braves 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Trojans have posted since April 11th.

Cheyanne Plenert spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Khloe Funk, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April. Cassidy Bernhardt was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Hillsboro kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Hillsboro pushed their record up to 8-14 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Council Grove, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last 11 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season.

Hillsboro will take on Pratt at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Greenbacks will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something the Trojans surely won't give up without a fight. As for Council Grove, they will face off against Mission Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Braves' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Vikings have averaged an impressive 11.2 runs per game this season.
