Basketball Game Preview: Irwin County Indians vs. Lanier County Bulldogs

The Irwin County Indians and the Lanier County Bulldogs will face off at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. Irwin County is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.1 points per game this season.

On Friday, Irwin County didn't have too much trouble with Charlton County as they won 48-34. Irwin County pushed the score to 41-21 by the end of the third, a deficit Charlton County cut but never quite recovered from.

Irwin County had a senior duo take command as Jaylen Martin went 6 of 13 on his way to 14 points in addition to eight rebounds and four steals and Sam Guy almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine boards. Guy has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more blocks the last 12 times he's played. Tyon Jones was another key player, putting up eight points and five boards.

Irwin County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in four consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Lanier County was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 53-49 to Atkinson County. The Bulldogs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Irwin County has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-13 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.3 points over those games. As for Lanier County, their loss dropped their record down to 13-10.
