Softball Recap: Deridder's Luck Changes for the Better on Thursday

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Eunice, DeRidder was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They won by a run and slipped past the Leesville Wampus Cats 2-1. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Dragons as it put an end to their eight-game losing streak.

Laila Roberson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on seven hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kinli Phelps, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with three stolen bases. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kamoree Childs, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

DeRidder's win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 5-11. As for Leesville, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-5.

DeRidder didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 10-5 victory against Pitkin on the 14th. As for Leesville, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 14-3 loss against Anacoco on the 17th.
