Fryeburg hasn't had much luck against Lake Region recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Raiders will look to defend their home field against the Lakers at 4:00 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On May 5th, Fryeburg earned an 8-5 victory over Oxford Hills. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Raiders.
Presli Knapp spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on 11 hits.
On the hitting side, Fryeburg got a big performance out of Reagan Wilson, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. Carlin Galligan was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Lake Region never got on the board in their matchup on Tuesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Wells on Wednesday. They walked away with a 12-8 win over the Warriors.
Lake Region also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Ava Cole gave up five earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits. Cole has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ella Gibbons, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Haley Hamlin, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
Lake Region has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Fryeburg, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Fryeburg's speedy runners might be the difference in Saturday's matchup. The Raiders have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Lake Region, though, as they've been averaging only 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Fryeburg continue to outrun the ball? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
