Basketball Game Preview: Neumann Regional Academy Golden Knights vs. Wellsboro Hornets

The Neumann Regional Academy Golden Knights and the Wellsboro Hornets will round out the year against one another at at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Neumann Regional Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.8 points per game this season.

Having struggled with eight losses in a row dating back to last season, Neumann Regional Academy turned things around against Bucktail on Saturday. It was close, but they ultimately received the gift of a 61-59 win from a begrudging Golden Knights squad. The score was all tied up 29-29 at the break, but they were the better team in the second half.

Neumann Regional Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Daiton Thompson led the charge by putting up 24 points. Another player making a difference was Andrew Walter, who posted 15 points.

Meanwhile, Wellsboro ended up a good deal behind Montoursville on Saturday and lost 52-37. While losing is never fun, the Hornets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 485th, while the Warriors are ranked 237th).

Wellsboro now has a losing record at 2-3. As for Neumann Regional Academy, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-5.

Neumann Regional Academy was able to grind out a solid win over Wellsboro when the teams last played back in January of 2023, winning 70-62. Will Neumann Regional Academy repeat their success, or does Wellsboro have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
