Baseball Recap: Oceanside Mariners vs. Lincoln Academy Eagles
Oceanside dropped to 6-9 on Friday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They came up short against the Lincoln Academy Eagles, falling 13-1. The Mariners were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Eagles earlier this season, when they won 4-3.
Oceanside saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Felix Clines, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
As for Lincoln Academy, the win snapped their losing streak at six games and leaves them with a 3-13 record. They not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since May 4th (when they won 16-2).
On Lincoln Academy's side, Wesley Poole made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave Poole a new career-high in strikeouts (three). He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Lincoln Academy's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 1-12 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, Lincoln Academy got a big performance out of Elijah Libby, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI and two runs. Those two runs gave Libby a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Owen Cotta, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
