Ty Storey goes over 10,000 career yards; Alex Austin breaks another state record.
With his second straight 400-yard passing performance, Ty Storey of Charleston (Ark.) became the eighth quarterback in state history to surpass the 10,000-yard milestone. His effort is one of the highlights among this week's MaxPreps National Football Stat Stars.
Storey, who threw for over 4,000 yards as a sophomore and junior, completed 23 of 41 passes for 413 yards and three touchdowns in a 42-8 win over Paris (Ark.). He now has 10,216 career passing yards, sixth on the state's all-time list. He needs just 449 yards to move into third place. The all-time state leader is Stefan Loucks of Pulaski Academy with 13,703 yards.
For Glendale quarterback Alex Austin, another game meant another state record. In a 72-65 win over Rolla, Austin completed 42 of 70 passes for 469 yards and a state record nine touchdowns. The previous record was eight touchdowns, held by three different players. With 270 completions in 441 attempts, Austin is 48 completions and 15 attempts away from setting single season state records in those categories, according to the
RealRay record book.
Austin also has four games with 40 or more completions. Prior to this year, only four quarterbacks in state history had ever completed at least 40 passes in a single game. He also has three games with at least 70 attempts. Only one other quarterback has ever attempted that many passes in a game in state history.
