Basketball Game Preview: Loomis Wolves vs. Axtell Wildcats

The Loomis Wolves will head out on the road to take on the Axtell Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Loomis' tournament run continued when they took on Elm Creek on Monday. Loomis had to suffer through a 71-40 loss at the hands of Elm Creek. While losing is never fun, the Wolves can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 234th, while the Buffaloes are ranked 33rd).

Despite the loss, Loomis saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Sophia Schemper almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine boards. Another player making a difference was Addison Perry, who posted five points and four steals.

Meanwhile, Axtell was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They lost 41-17 to Ansley/Litchfield.

Loomis' loss dropped their record down to 3-17. As for Axtell, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-14.

Loomis strolled past Axtell in their previous matchup back in February of 2024 by a score of 45-27. Will Loomis repeat their success, or does Axtell have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
