Baseball Recap: Montello Drops Season-High Score on Rio

Montello had lost seven straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 7-14 to make it eight. They fell just short of the Rio Vikings by a score of 14-13. On the bright side, the 13- run performance marked the Hilltoppers' highest-scoring match to date.

As for Rio, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-15. Considering their hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

For Rio's part, Jack Becker made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. Becker was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Rio's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 0-14 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Rio got a massive performance out of Miles Hall, who went 3-for-5 with four stolen bases, four RBI, and one run. Those three hits gave Hall a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Nolan Proebstle, who earned three runs and four stolen bases.

Montello does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Rio, they will head out on the road to face off against Heritage Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
