Preview: Midwest City Bombers vs. Elgin Owls
Midwest City has been on the road for two straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They will take on The Elgin Owls at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Friday, Midwest City beat Noble 42-34.
Jahhim Mahmoud had a dynamite game for Midwest City, rushing for 236 yards and three touchdowns on only 15 carries. Kenneth Colston was another key contributor, rushing for 106 yards and a touchdown on only 13 carries.
Meanwhile, Elgin put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They claimed a resounding 62-14 win over MacArthur at home. Fans of Elgin have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season ended as a blowout.
Elgin's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Matthew Lund, who rushed for 155 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 carries, and also caught a touchdown. Lund's longest rush was for an incredible 80 yards. Another player making a difference was Tres Lorah, who threw for 177 yards and four touchdowns while completing 81.8% of his passes.
Midwest City's win was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 6-3. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 43.3 points per game. As for Elgin, their victory bumped their record up to 9-0.
We should be in store for an exciting game Friday as Midwest City and Elgin have no problem gaining yardage. Midwest City has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 396.2 total yards per game. However, it's not like Elgin struggles in that department as they've been even better at 420 per game. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them.
Midwest City skirted past Elgin 23-21 in their previous matchup back in November of 2022. Does Midwest City have another victory up their sleeve, or will Elgin turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
