Baseball Recap: Winchendon Wins High-Profile Matchup Against Worcester Academy

Winchendon faced Worcester Academy in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Wapiti came out on top against the Hilltoppers by a score of 6-3. Surprisingly, this marked the Wapiti's fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Gianni Melendez and CJ Jones did most of the damage at the plate: Melendez went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Jones went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That's the most runs Melendez has posted over his last seven games.

Winchendon is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.6 runs over those games. As for Worcester Academy, with the defeat, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 9-5.

Coming up, Winchendon will face off against Putnam Science Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Worcester Academy, they will take on Deerfield Academy at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
