League recap: George Ranch scores huge upset over Angleton

The biggest upset of the week belonged to George Ranch, who took down 69th ranked Angleton, 24-21.

George Ranch moved up to 345 from 532 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 4A Region III District 23. Ricky Tullos' team climbed the ranks as a result of besting the Wildcats 24-21.

Angleton's dynamic duo of T.J. Austin and Jalyn Judkins proved tough for George Ranch to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Austin threw for 134 yards and one touchdown and Judkins had 67 yards receiving. Joshawa West helped Angleton's passing attack out by catching three balls for 29 yards.

Justin Reed made the biggest impact on defense this week as Foster topped Bay City. The 5-foot-7 defensive back grabbed two interceptions.

Kealan Blackshear was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 141 yards on 15 carries as the Falcon lost to George Ranch. Teammate Darien James added to the ground attack by rushing for 137 yards.

5-foot-10 quarterback Emond Hobbs of Brazosport is the league leader in passing yards this season with 750. He has also thrown eight touchdowns. On the ground, Lamar Consolidated's Keshon Leonard has rushed for 737 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Judkins. The Angleton star has 18 catches for 354 yards.

A big matchup in 4A Region III District 23 this week will be when the Wildcats take on the Exporters. As it stands, Angleton is in third, while Brazosport is in sixth.

Terry extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Ben Rudolph's team, 27-7. The win marks fourth in a row for the the Rangers.
