Softball Recap: Gallatin County Comes Up Short

Gallatin County extended their losing streak to six on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 2-8 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 14-13 heartbreaker at the hands of the Hardin County Cougars. If the Hawks were looking for revenge after losing 14-0 to the Cougars when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Hardin County, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 5-9 record. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for their hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

For Hardin County's part, Reagan Banks and Macey Martin did most of the damage at the plate: Banks went 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base, while Martin went 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those four hits gave Martin a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Isabella Rose, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Gallatin County will challenge Crab Orchard at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Trojans will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Hawks surely won't give up without a fight. As for Hardin County, they have already played their next contest, a 5-1 loss against Norris City-Omaha-Enfield on the 9th.
