Softball Recap: Lovington Snags 11th Victory in Last 13 Games

Lovington had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 15-run drubbing they dealt Portales on Friday. The Wildcats put the hurt on the Rams with a sharp 16-1 victory. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by six runs or more this season.

Sabrie Sanchez spent all four innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits.

At the plate, Lovington let Zabri Rodriguez and Honey Morales run wild. Rodriguez went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one double, while Morales went 2-for-3 with four runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most RBI Rodriguez has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jocelynn Holguin, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one run.

Lovington was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Portales only posted a batting average of .200.

Lovington has been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Portales, their loss was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 9-13.

Lovington will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Rams: the pair will be back at it again later today.
