Cocoa had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They secured a 30-24 W over the Merritt Island Mustangs on Friday. Winning may never get old, but the Tigers sure are getting used to it with their ninth in a row dating back to last season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Cocoa to victory, but perhaps none more so than Troy Silberzahn, who punched in two rushing scores, and also picked up 41 receiving yards and one touchdown. Another rusher making a difference was Javeon Scott, who gained 118 total yards and a touchdown.
Merritt Island lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Alain Adams, who rushed for 72 yards and one TD.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cocoa will host Mainland at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Merritt Island, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Melbourne at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
