Soccer Recap: Poquoson Comes Up Short

Poquoson lost against Smithfield back in April of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Islanders fell 3-1 to the Packers. While losing is never fun, Poquoson can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia soccer rankings (they are ranked 150th, while Smithfield are ranked 23rd).

Poquoson's goal came courtesy of Lucas Markley, who's now up to five this season.

Poquoson has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-6-1 record this season. As for Smithfield, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-2.

Looking ahead, Poquoson will take on Nandua at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Smithfield has already played their next matchup (against Warwick), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
