Softball Recap: Mariner Takes a Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Mariner can now relate to. They fell 10-6 to the Charlotte Fightin' Tarpons on Thursday. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Tritons, who until this match were averaging 2.92 runs allowed.

Gabi Winters spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and seven unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 23 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Calleigh Buzard was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and two runs.

This is the second loss in a row for Mariner and nudges their season record down to 17-7. As for Charlotte, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 13-14.

As of now, neither Mariner nor the Fightin' Tarpons have any future games scheduled.
