Softball Recap: Apple Valley Snags Third Victory in Last Four Games

Apple Valley won the last time they faced Granite Hills and things went their way on Monday too. The Sun Devils' pitcher stepped up to hand the Cougars a 14-0 shutout. The Sun Devils might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matchups by six runs or more this season.

Brynne Johnson was a major factor no matter where she played. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Jordyn Gentile was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one double. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Brooke Johnson was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Apple Valley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are a perfect 10-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Apple Valley has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-7-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Granite Hills, with the defeat, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 13-7.

Apple Valley didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 17-6 victory against Burroughs on the 29th. As for Granite Hills, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Barstow at 3:15 p.m.
