League recap: Highlands win leads to rise in state rank

Highlands moved up to 760 from 799 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Sierra Delta. The Scots were able to make the jump by beating Rio Vista 41-14.

Encina Prep and San Juan played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Encina Prep eventually emerging with a 12-7 victory.

Jakobe Hawkins was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 13 carries, he ran for 128 yards as Bradshaw Christian bested Vacaville Christian. Teammate Josh Criswell added to the ground attack by rushing for 74 yards.

Betts was the best wideout in Sierra Delta this week as the Pride defeated the Falcons. Betts tallied one reception for 50 yards.

Cheapell Morris put up the best numbers through the air as Highlands topped the Rams. He finished with a total of five completions for 125 yards and two touchdowns. Morris' favorite target this week was John Abalos, who caught two passes for 48 yards.

Bradshaw Christian's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Pride feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Kevin Williams has thrown for 501 yards and seven touchdowns this season, while Luis Romero has 14 catches for 233 yards. Hawkins leads the league in rushing with 595 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Matt Cokley's team takes on the Bulldogs. The Scots are in fifth place, while Encina Prep is in first place.

There should be lots of points scored when Rio Vista and Bradshaw Christian face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Cliff Malta's team comes in having scored 151 this season, while Drew Rickert's team has scored 167. The Rams scored 14 points last week as they lost to Highlands.

The Scots led the league in scoring this week after putting up 41 points on Rio Vista. Morris ran for 10 yards in the win.
