Preview: New Hope Trojans vs. Canton Tigers
The New Hope Trojans's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Canton Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on February 16th. New Hope will be strutting in after a win while Canton will be coming in after a defeat.
Last Friday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, New Hope beat Lafayette 44-39.
Meanwhile, after a string of six wins, Canton's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 52-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of Holmes County Central.
The losing side was boosted by Shamira Morton, who dropped a double-double on 28 points and 15 rebounds. That was a full 58.3% of Canton's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Na'Miya Davis, who scored nine points.
New Hope is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-9 record this season. As for Canton, their loss dropped their record down to 24-4.
New Hope came up short against Canton in their previous matchup back in December of 2021, falling 40-33. Can New Hope avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
