Basketball Game Preview: Western Guilford Hornets vs. Northern Guilford Nighthawks

Western Guilford is 0-7 against Northern Guilford since January of 2022 but things could change on Friday. The Western Guilford Hornets will be playing in front of their home fans against the Northern Guilford Nighthawks at 6:00 p.m. Western Guilford is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.1 points per game this season.

On Tuesday, Western Guilford lost to Grimsley at home by a 67-48 margin. While losing is never fun, the Hornets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 331st, while the Whirlies are ranked 139th).

Despite the defeat, Western Guilford got top-tier performance from Leila Henderson, who posted 29 points. Reese Miga was another key player, putting up eight points.

Meanwhile, Northern Guilford made easy work of Southwest Guilford on Tuesday and carried off a 68-45 victory. The Nighthawks have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matches by 20 points or more this season.

Western Guilford's loss dropped their record down to 6-8. As for Northern Guilford, their win bumped their record up to 8-4.

Things could have been worse for Western Guilford, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 73-59 loss to Northern Guilford in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. Can Western Guilford avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
