Basketball Recap: Pasquotank County Drops Highest Score of Season Against Manteo

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Pasquotank County). They blew past the Manteo Redskins 90-62 on Wednesday. That's more bragging rights for the Panthers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Pasquotank County was led to victory by Jayon Harris and Branden Smith. Harris went 8 for 10 on his way to 23 points and three steals, while Smith went 7 of 12 en route to 17 points and three steals. The game was Smith's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Kenyatta Parker was another key player, putting up ten points and three steals.

Pasquotank County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive rebound total in three consecutive matchups.

Manteo's loss came despite strong showings from Landon Sawyer and Sam Jenkins. Sawyer went 7 for 13 en route to 16 points and five boards, while Jenkins posted 11 points in addition to seven assists and three steals. Jenkins is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kai McGilberry, who scored six points and seven rebounds.

Pasquotank County's record now sits at 6-8. As for Manteo, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pasquotank County will welcome Holmes at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Pasquotank County knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six contests -- so hopefully Holmes likes a good challenge. As for Manteo, they will host Currituck County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Manteo is facing Currituck County at the right time seeing as Currituck County is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
