They came up short against the Merrillville Pirates, falling 37-13. The Indians haven't had much luck with the Pirates recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.

Jac'Quarious Johnson continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Merrillville, rushing for 111 yards and a touchdown. John Peters got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Portage's defeat dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Merrillville, they pushed their record up to 3-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.
