Basketball Game Preview: Chetopa Hornets vs. Erie Red Devils

The Chetopa Hornets will face off against the Erie Red Devils at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Chetopa hasn't scored more than 30 points for eight games straight, a trend the team is eager to reverse.

Chetopa's last matchup with Southeast could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's contest on Tuesday. The Hornets were beaten by the Lancers 58-24. While losing is never fun, the Hornets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 351st, while the Lancers are ranked 174th).

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Erie). They took down Liberty HomeSchool Alliance 73-55 on Thursday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Red Devils.

Chetopa better focus on containing Nick Haviland and Quincy Brown as the pair were huge in Erie's win. Haviland shot 48% from the field on his way to 24 points along with seven boards and seven steals, while Brown went 10-for-14 en route to 20 points and three steals. Those seven steals gave Haviland a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Tanner Strathe, who posted nine points.

The victory got Erie back to even at 11-11. As for Chetopa, their loss dropped their record down to 0-19-1.
