Baseball Game Preview: Lutheran Crusaders vs. Genoa-Kingston Cogs

For the second straight game, Lutheran will face off against Genoa-Kingston. The Crusaders will be playing at home against the Cogs at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Lutheran came out on top against Genoa-Kingston on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run first inning. The Crusaders sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-6 win over the Cogs. The game was the first time the Crusaders have beaten the Cogs on their field since June 2, 2021.

Jake Guse made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Guse was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Lutheran's success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is 2-1 (and 4-6 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Mason Villafuerte was incredible, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Nate Ling was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

The victory made it two in a row for Lutheran and bumps their season record up to 6-7. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Genoa-Kingston, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last ten matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-11 record this season.
