Texas high school football: Statewide top 25 scoreboard

DeSoto looks to beat Duncanville for the second year in a row in one of the state's hottest rivalries.

The high school football schedule in Texas this week is headlined by a battle of two of the best teams in the state and country. Ranked No. 17 nationally by MaxPreps, DeSoto hosts No. 4 Duncanville on Friday in the 34th meeting between the rival programs.

DeSoto holds a 17-16 edge in the series thanks to a 49-35 win in 2023 – the only game Keelon Russell has lost as the starting quarterback at Duncanville.

Russell enters the showdown with a 33-1 career record. The five-star Alabama pledge has thrown for 1,437 yards and 20 touchdowns in four games this season while completing 75 percent of his attempts. Russell may have the best cast of pass-catchers in the state in Dakorien Moore, Zach Turner, Ayson Theus and Trenton Yancey.

DeSoto has won three in a row since a 57-51 loss against No. 11 North Crowley (Fort Worth). The Eagles are averaging 57.6 points per game behind talents like Kelden Ryan, Daylon Singleton, Deondrae Riden Jr., Ethan Feaster and Myson Johnson-Cook.
