Basketball Recap: Northeastern Skates Past Knightstown with Ease

Northeastern won the last time they faced Knightstown and things went their way on Friday too. The Northeastern Knights simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Knightstown Panthers 62-26. The Knights have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 13 matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Ava Mikesell was her usual excellent self, going 6 of 13 en route to 19 points in addition to six assists and six steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Adysson Kircher, who posted 13 points along with five boards and five steals.

They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Northeastern was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Knightstown only racked up six assists.

Knightstown's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Anna Roberson, who had ten points and five rebounds, and Lilly Drew, who put up ten points and five boards.

The win was the fourth in a row for Northeastern, bringing their record for this year to 19-1. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.8 points per game. As for Knightstown, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-8 record this season.

Northeastern will head out to challenge Union County at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Union County is on a five-game streak of home wins, Northeastern a 16-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season)-- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. Knightstown has already played their next contest (against Cambridge City Lincoln), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
