Calhoun and West Central co-op [Winchester-Bluffs] pushed the score to 18-1 the last time they played West Central co-op [Winchester-Bluffs], but on Monday defenses reigned supreme. The Warriors sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 victory over the Cougars. That's more bragging rights for the Warriors, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Riley Pohlman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up 15 Ks.

On the hitting side, Conley Klocke was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Layla Longnecker was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one run.

The win made it two in a row for Calhoun and bumps their season record up to 5-7. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for West Central co-op [Winchester-Bluffs], they dropped their record down to 2-6 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Calhoun will face off against Brown County at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Warriors' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Hornets have averaged an impressive 8.1 runs per game this season. As for West Central co-op [Winchester-Bluffs], they will head out to face off against Jacksonville at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
