Baseball Recap: Lake Station Edison Beats Hammond Central for Their Third Straight Win

Lake Station Edison took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against Hammond Central, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Fighting Eagles sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 win over the Wolves on Thursday. The victory was familiar territory for the Fighting Eagles, who have now won three matchups in a row.

Joaquin Hernandez made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Hernandez was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Lake Station Edison: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 4-12 otherwise.

In other batting news, Kaylan Colon and Xavier Moore did most of the damage at the plate: Colon went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases and one run, while Moore went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most stolen bases Colon has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Zach Brown, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases.

Lake Station Edison's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-12. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Hammond Central, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 14 of their last 17 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-17-1 record this season.
