Softball Game Recap: Radford Bobcats vs. Floyd County Buffaloes

Radford extended their losing streak to 16 on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 1-16 in the process. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 16-0 to the Floyd County Buffaloes, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Buffaloes this season, with their most recent defeat being a 16-0 loss on Wednesday.

As for Floyd County, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-7. The result was nothing new for the Buffaloes, who have now won ten contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

For Floyd County's part, Emma Biesterveld made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. Biesterveld has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI.

In other batting news, Lilly Gillispie and Ava DeJesus did most of the damage at the plate: Gillispie went 3-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and three RBI, while DeJesus got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Kyra Vaughn was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Radford will square off against rival James River at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Floyd County is set to challenge their familiar foe Glenvar at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The timing isn't great for the Buffaloes: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while the Highlanders have snatched up five consecutive wins on the road.
