Softball Recap: Marietta Gets the Win

While Marietta's win against Eastern wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Tigers had just enough and edged out the Eagles 8-6. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Tigers.

Abby Miller made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Miller was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Samantha Mayo and Emmy Ward did most of the damage at the plate: Mayo got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs, while Ward went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave Ward a new career-high. Sophie Morris was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Marietta's record now sits at 15-11. As for Eastern, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-14 record this season.

Marietta will welcome Logan at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Tigers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Chieftains have averaged an impressive 9.7 runs per game this season. As for Eastern, they will head out on the road to square off against Trimble at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
