Meanwhile, South Summit had to endure a seven-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. Everything went their way against Summit Academy on Thursday as they made off with a 13-5 win. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Wildcats' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Owen Mair spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits.
At the plate, South Summit let Ian Mair and Hunter Bednerik run wild. Mair went 3-for-5 with six RBI, four runs, and one triple, while Bednerik went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those two runs gave Bednerik a new career-high. Ammen Marchant was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
South Summit always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .524. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Summit Academy only posted an OBP of .323.
South Summit picked up their first home victory, bumping their record up to 6-14. As for Judge Memorial Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-13.
Everything went Judge Memorial Catholic's way against South Summit in their previous meeting back in April of 2021, as Judge Memorial Catholic made off with a 10-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
