League recap: Gaither extends winning streak with victory over Freedom

7A District 7 recap Oct. 23, 2012

Gaither extended the longest winning streak in 7A District 7 this week by beating Freedom, 16-7. The win marks fourth in a row for the the Cowboys.

Tampa Bay Tech led the league in scoring this week after putting up 42 points on Steinbrenner. Deon Cain threw for 207 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 10 yards in the win.

Marcus Brown was the best wideout in the league this week as Gaither beat the Patriots. Brown racked up eight receptions for 100 yards. Vu Le helped Gaither's passing attack out by catching three balls for 59 yards.

Deon Thompson was the most productive running back in 7A District 7 this week. In 11 carries, he ran for 101 yards as the Titans beat Freedom. Michael Fry also contributed to the rushing game with 57 yards on the ground.

6-foot-3 quarterback Alex McGough of the Cowboys is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1046. He has also thrown 14 touchdowns. On the ground, Chamberlain's Xavier Johnson has rushed for 684 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Jon Marc Carrier. The Steinbrenner star has 17 catches for 361 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Gaither takes on the Chiefs. The Cowboys are in first place, while Chamberlain is in third place.
