Baseball Recap: Hammond Academy of Science & Tech Takes Down Westville in a Playoff Battle

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Hammond Academy of Science & Tech had no problem doing just that on Saturday. Everything went their way against the Westville Blackhawks as they made off with an 11-4 win. The Hawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Boudi Sullivan made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Sullivan was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Austin McKimmy, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last six games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Diego Patino, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

The victory (which was Hammond Academy of Science & Tech's fourth in a row) raised their record to 17-4. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.3 runs over those games. As for Westville, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last nine games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-17 record this season.

Hammond Academy of Science & Tech will square off against Tri-Township at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Westville does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
