Basketball Game Preview: Omaha South Packers vs. Bryan Bears

The Omaha South Packers will take on the Bryan Bears at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Given that both suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

Omaha South's tournament run continued when they took on Buena Vista on Monday. Omaha South took an 81-70 hit to the loss column at the hands of Buena Vista. The Packers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Defeat or not, Omaha South got some senior leadership from Lou Hodoly and Mar Cantu. Hodoly went 10 for 19 on his way to 25 points and three steals, while Cantu almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds. Robert Drake was another key player, putting up five points.

Meanwhile, Bryan played a tough contest on Monday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were beaten by Benson 97-53. The Bears were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 54-32.

Despite the loss, Bryan saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Caden Garrett went 6 of 7 on his way to 15 points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jose Leiva, who posted ten points.

Omaha South now has a losing record at 1-2. As for Bryan, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Omaha South was taken down by Bryan 89-50 in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Omaha South was down 47-26.
